Welcome back to Monday’s with “The Penny.” Getting closer to the book discussion on May 25th at Crooked Tree Art Center, we get more indepth with the book and Frank’s foray into Korea.
“The neighborhood was abuzz about Korea, and Penny heard every word. She saw the letter before Frank got home. Her first reaction was to get busy with household chores and the children, but any quiet moment found her grabbing the envelope and staring holes into it, thinking she could change what was inside. Damn him for staying in the reserves. Damn him.”
Next up in “The Penny,” Korea. Penny paces at home knowing the notice had arrived for Frank to embark overseas yet again. Not until completing 55 bombing missions and some harrowing action, Frank is allowed to come home. But because of the wartime separation, Penny needs to lay down some parameters, and homelife becomes more difficult.
