As the world around me continues to spin, I find myself hanging on because I am still learning how to be a writer. Each book started, each book finished, and each book launched is a new process. There are similar nuances, of course, but the learning curve of expectations and eventual results of the publication is endless. I don’t know where I am on that continuum, other than to say, I feel far away from a relaxation standpoint. Not to say, I don’t enjoy the alternative lifestyle of making my own time and managing my own life, but there is a stress of wanting more people to actually like what you write. And down that route comes the uncharted map of writing what you want or what the market is asking for. I believe there is a middle ground on which to build. Topics are plentiful and subjects delightful, so why the quandary? I suspect it will end when I reach the New York Times Bestseller List. I suspect it will end when I’ve penned enough manuscripts to know that writing has improved. In any case, the future is now, and that means it’s time to begin writing again; so if you see less of me around, know the studio lamp is lit. I will certainly be at all of my scheduled events, and walking downtown everyday, but be careful: Storylines have begun and you are all targets!
