E Pluribus Unum

November 19, 2015

e-pluribus-unumE pluribus unum: Out of many, one. A perfect selection for the motto of the United States of America. After all, we have been settled by immigrants since the beginning of time starting with the various tribal groups forming the foundation of our Native Americans. No one popped up here from the ground or came down from space and suddenly colonized America. E pluribus unum. We are one people, and it is sad when we divide ourselves out of panic and fear for that is exactly what others want to see. In times such as these, we should not depend on individuals soliciting their cause at the ruination of others; we should not listen to those exacting fear for private gain; we should not proselytize our objections to the human race to benefit our own lost objectives. What should happen is a deep recognition that none of us would be here without the other. Acting alone or being divisive leaves us vulnerable. By glomming onto every word, right or wrong, taken out of context for the continuation of a polarizing rhetoric, we separate ourselves from action. E pluribus unum. Say it. Practice it. We all may have different opinions, and we all may not share the same religion or culture, but we are all Americans counting on each other to find the same conclusion: E pluribus unum.
