Preparing for the storm

April 13, 2018

PetoskeyBreakwallWindyOn this Friday morning, I sit in the reading room preparing for the storm. We’re expecting rain, ice and snow over the next four days and that doesn’t account for the storm that continues wavering over the entire country. I can head for the store and buy eggs, milk and bread making sure the essential provisions have been stocked. I can fill the car with gas, make sure the house and garage are ready, check for any branches that may tumble from the trees, but I can’t get close to wondering how others are preparing for the storm. Coffee shop and gym conversations are muted. Factions have partitioned themselves into corners. What will life be like after the storm? After the landscape has been blasted with vitriol and accusations. After the truth and factual evidence have been spun into cyclonic winds until we awake and aren’t sure which direction to move. I, for one, will be carefully ducking and dodging the blowing winds and blowhard opinions because I have realized that my own security lies within my own acceptance of my soul and what I know to be right and wrong. Mind you, that doesn’t mean I don’t have opinions as evidence by many writings in these blogs, but this time I choose to watch. The storms taking us to the brink are out of our control, at this point. This far into April and the snowstorm is not the norm. This far into an embattled country after only 450 days of a new White House, and things are now out of our control. Weather patterns are unpredictable to a peopled planet who placed seasons and calendars upon an Earth that knows only rhythms. Political patterns have become unpredictable with unpredictable people plotting and conniving their way into our world only to be found and now raining havoc upon our security. Preparing for the storm will be the hallmark thought for the next couple of weeks; however, my fear is that the hurricane will worsen and storms will be the norm until the ugliness is disgorged from our environment. The Earth will cleanse itself much like mankind will cleanse the White House then we, as survivors, can harvest the fruits of happiness once more and tread softly amongst each other smiling and sharing without fear. Yes, I am preparing for the storm.e-pluribus-unum
