A return to routines

April 3, 2018

NewStudio2The first day home is always a return to routines and that’s not all bad. The visits with friends and family during vacations are always fabulous, wonderful and gracious, but once in the door of your own home and a feel for your bed and favorite pillow the relaxation ensues. Isn’t it odd how often we go on vacation to relax only to stay so active that you arrive home to relax? Today was about taking trash and recyclable’s to the transfer center; it was cleaning the house after the cat had its run for two weeks; it was laundry; it was going through the mail, to the bank and paying the bills. It was a return to routines and it felt great. We had an amazing time in California, and yes, we returned to a Winter Storm Watch for 24 hours, and yes, the bay is still frozen, but we’re home. I had the best sleep in two weeks last night and can’t wait to hit the studio tomorrow and get back to the books. Time away from offices and work is essential. Time away from routines is healthy and life-giving; however, the refreshed spirit returning home is just that, refreshed. The energy is good and the comfort is splendid. So while I’m late on the blog, it’s okay. The house is perfect, the dinner and candles were perfect, and the last of the Manhattan rests in the melting ice next to me. It’s April and more adventures await. Planes will be boarded and toasts will be made, but once the trips are done, we’ll come home and relax. Routines are good, and the older I get the better they feel.

Welcome home! My vacations usually go through these stages:
    1. Oh jeeze, can’t we just stay home? (Thinking of the travel)
    2. Well, we’re here. It feels weird.
    3. This is awesome! Wouldn’t it be great to just stay here forever?
    4. I’m ready to go home.
    5. (Back home now). This feels weird.
    6. I’m so glad we’re home.
Luckily, stages 3 and 6 last the longest, especially 6.
