Our political process

October 26, 2015

capitol-building-washington-dc-picturesOur political process is broke, and I believe there is a simple fix: Let’s add a third major party and be done with it. The Tea Party wants to be a party. They want what they want and should be able to argue for their beliefs in their own terms. Instead we work on a two-party system (Please, I’m not forgetting the Green Party, the Communist Party, the Socialist Party, the Independents, etc. – get someone elected and we’ll talk.) and they don’t like each other, and I’m not talking about Republicans and Democrats. The Republicans don’t like each other. I’m not a card-carrying Republican anymore, so I look in from the outside, but it’s clear there are visceral differences among the ranks. So divorce. Let us all rest in peace knowing there will be votes divided in thirds –  and fourths with the few Independents – and let’s get back to running a country that allows such discourse but doesn’t forget the common man who foots the bill.
