A New Year and an old way

January 3, 2013

The politics in D.C. won’t change until we change how they’re funded, and I don’t mean funding the USA.  I mean funding the people in their quest to become our leaders in Congress.  Every decision made through the first Fiscal Cliff debates was about who funded who on their trip to the House or Senate.  I’m not choosing sides here.  It’s both sides of the floor.  Until the election process is changed with regard to money and campaigns, our republic and democracy will be neither.  Adding Citizen’s United to the pot boosts everyone’s campaign cofers.  The argument of the unions backing Dems goes out the window with big business and super PAC’s now backing the GOP.  The playing field has certainly been leveled – against the common man.  A must read is Unequal Democracy by Larry M. Bartels.  His words were in print prior to Citizen’s United.  Wonder what he’d say now?  http://press.princeton.edu/titles/8664.html
