Expanding the mind is an age-old desire we all – well, most – strive for at some point along life’s continuum. The other day I placed a few status reports on the Facebook page to continue the outreach for the writing, and the status reports showed places I was writing from. Not physically, mind you, but where my mind and mental strata were while composing. A wonderful cousin informed me she was some minutes away as a hint for a visit, while in actuality I was hundreds of miles away – but near nonetheless. Henry David Thoreau says it best in his Conclusion to Walden,
Direct your eye right inward, and you’ll find
A thousand regions in your mind
Yet undiscovered. Travel them, and be
Expert in home-cosmography
We are all children of this Universe and it is forever expanding while traveling at hundreds of thousands of miles per hour, and we but lowly bits of dust glued to a planet moving at tens of thousands of miles per hour around the sun. Can we not glance into the gray matter and pull out tens of millions of years of DNA, thought, and instinct to provide a canvas for our creativity? We can. It’s just taking a breath. It just takes but a moment to realize the enormity within which we live. Smile. Express. Live. Expanding the mind arrives naturally to anyone who puts a little work into it, because everything we are connected to is certainly expanding much faster. Take a minute and catch up.
