Buying American Legislators

April 8, 2014

CapitalBuilding  Buying American legislators became that much easier right around April Fools day. The limits in the amount of money an individual can throw around to different candidates was lifted. ( http://thelede.blogs.nytimes.com/2014/04/02/reaction-to-supreme-court-decision/?_php=true&_type=blogs&_r=0) Some scream that it is a great decision for First Amendment rights and others scream it’s a conservative agenda that allows for big money to continue the take-over of the American political machine. (Don’t let either side fool you. They all do it. Yes, about 75% of political money is geared toward a conservative agenda, but both sides play the game.) What doesn’t seem to be said is the point-blank recognition that we’ve accepted the pay-to-play venue in our political system. First Amendment or no First Amendment we have now almost totally shifted the ability of anyone in the world to bankroll our political agenda while the majority of people stand by and watch. The three branches of government could certainly come to some agreement as to how to level the playing field for the common man, but they choose not to. The media doesn’t care. They are now guaranteed billions in business. The writers, news-heads, radio hosts, etc., etc., love the decision because politics in America is now reaching levels of the  great corporate governance that support it – and everyone’s paycheck keeps getting bigger.  I continue to believe in the free-market way of life. I continue to support capitalism, and I have no problem with people gaining wealth, but eventually with the greed and power structure changing so dramatically, don’t be surprised if an upheaval swells to unmentionable proportions. And, again, in this blog the worry extends to people, businesses and governments of wealth able to buy their way in from anywhere in the world. You know it is happening now. The only way to stop the hot money magma is to become active and pressure those we vote in to work for a common cause. I’ve been guilty of delivering the checks that got my legislation passed. I know first hand how it works. This pay-to-play needs to stop before we break.
